The Karl-Georg-Haldenwang-School in Leonberg was founded by pastor Karl Georg Haldenwang in 1835, as the first school in Germany for handicapped children.
The school's main task is to provide individual support for children and young people with significant learning difficulties or mental disabilities and to prepare pupils for as independent a life as possible as adults. In March 2011, the Karl-Georg-Haldenwang-Schule opened a branch that houses the school's vocational preparation facility (vocational school level).
There is space here for 58 pupils aged 15-20. The facility has a wood and metal workshop, a school garden, a home economics area and a school canteen.
Through cooperation with around 60 companies, the pupils have the opportunity to complete internships and integrate themselves professionally.
